The Short & Sweet
An eclectic mix of people and properties, Forest Beach is often referred to as the “unofficial downtown district” of Hilton Head Island.
The History
A throwback to the 1950s, Forest Beach was initially devised as a casual beach community in Hilton Head (due in part to its proximity to the island’s only shopping center at the time).
The most notable place for those on Forest Beach is Coligny Circle. This was named after the French admiral Gaspard de Coligny, who was a part of the first group of explorers to settle on the area.
The Homes
Forest Beach has undergone plenty of renovations in recent years, with plenty of new homes being added. This is where you are likely to find a recent fixer-upper which been given a new lease on life. You might find newer beach rental properties (at about 5000 sq. ft.) right next door to 1950s ranch houses with loads of charm.
The Lifestyle
Forest Beach is a seaside community that you can quickly call home. This is one of more public places to live on the island, as there are no gated communities (what we call plantations), and the beaches here are open for the public to enjoy.
For this reason, the centerpiece of Forest Beach is the beach itself. Sitting right on the shores of the beautiful Atlantic, people here enjoy soaking up the sun, having dinner at many of the area’s finest establishments, or any of the beach shops, family activities, or the famous Coligny Plaza.
It’s all about the beach here, and every property is within walking distance. Anything goes when it comes to this community, which gives this laid-back community its unmistakable charm.
